Overview
Products can be categorised and grouped by three features by a common Product Matrix e.g. Size, Colour and Style.
This becomes useful when a product can differ in only a few ways but is generally the same product, and where the customer may be happy with any one of a few different products depending on their price and current availability.
Setup
To begin, set up your categories in the Matrix Product module.
You will likely want to change the default labels from Z, X & Y into something more meaningful e.g. the “Matrix Product Z” label will be the starting category, so a suggested label for this could be “Style”, “Type” etc.
You can set these labels in “Product Settings” under the “Matrix” tab.
Assign these Matrix Product attributes to existing Products in their Modify screen under the “Additional Info” tab.
All three categories must be set against a Product to set where there product sits on the matrix intersection.
Selling Matrix Products
To sell a Matrix Product on a Sales Order / Quote – on the Items widget’s dropdown menu, choose “Add Matrix Product”.
Choose your first category (what you previously set as Matrix Product Z) from the dropdown – this will then populate the matrix to show any products that have the Z category that you selected, and show the stock level of each.
Enter the amount of each that is required in the controls provided.
Additional matrices can be added at the same time.
The previous sections can be collapsed to save space on the form, as well as being Removed entirely.
Once all the quantities are entered, click Save and the system will add all of the entries as new Items on the Sales Order.
