Country of Origin

Background

Since the UK left the European Union the country of origin of goods is required on the sales invoice documentation. The duty rate should also be calculated from the country of origin rather than the supplier’s country.

Activation

Country of origins are optional and are not used by default. They can be activated by changing the Purchase Order Setting “Country Of Origin Default Source” to either “Product” or “Supplier” to determine which we will use as our source.

Setup

  • In products there is a “Duty Rate Country Source” setting that determines where we get our country of origin from when calculating duty. This can be set to “Supplier Country” or “Country Of Origin”
  • If using the “Product” Setting then choose a country of origin for each applicable product
  • If using the “Supplier” Setting then choose a country of origin for each applicable account
  • A country of origin can also be selected on any desired supplier cross references

Process

Raising Purchase Order Items

When country of origins are active (setting set to “Supplier” or “Product”) and you are adding a purchase order item to a purchase order, the item’s country of origin will default based on the setup above.
It will come from the supplier cross reference, if it has a country of set, otherwise from the product or supplier depending on which setting you chose.
The country of origin on the item can be modified as long as it has quantity outstanding.

Goods Receiving

When adding a received item to a goods receipt, the line will be stamped with the country of origin that the purchase order item had.
When finalising the goods receipt, the duty on the created inventory batch will be calculated depending on what the “Duty Rate Country Source” setting is set to.
If set to “Supplier Country” then it will use the country of origin on the supplier.
If set to “Country Of Origin” then it will use the country of origin on the goods receipt line.

Product Hub

When adding stock, if country of origins are active then there will be an additional option to choose the country of origin, which will default from the product’s country of origin. There is also be an additional “Change Country Of Origin” action against batches.
