Test Types

Background

Test types allow quality control data to be captured and stored against goods receipts and manufacturing orders.

Setup

Create Test Type

Navigate to the Test Type module and add a new test type.

  • First Test At*: The quantity at which the first test will occur.  Leaving this at 0 means the test will be immediately active.
  • Period Type*/Quantity*: determine how often to run the test.
e.g. if the Period Type is set to Quantity and Period Quantity is 5, then every 5 that are finished requires the test.
  • Data Type: the type of field should appear to capture the test results. There are 4 options: Text, Date, Numeric, and Boolean.
If Numeric is selected, the following fields are enabled:
    • Lower Tolerance: decimal – the lower the test result must meet. If it falls below this value, the test fails.
    • Upper Tolerance: decimal – the upper value the test result must meet. If it is above this value, the test fails.
  • Quantity* to Test: quantity of items to test during recording.  Example: Test 5 jars every 15 minutes.
  • Test in Process*: signifies a test may be in process and need to be recorded later (after receipt or manufacturing finish).
  • Mandatory*: signifies a test is required on receipt or manufacturing finish.

* Note there is currently no logic to use the values set in these fields.

Assign Test Type

Next we need to tell the system where we want our test type to be used.
A test type can be applied to either a product or a process component in a structure.

Assign To Product

  • Open the product module.
  • Go to the “Test Types” tab and run the “Maintain Test Types” action in the test types widget.
  • Tick the Test Type you created and click Save.
  • If you want to override any of your test type parameters, specifically for this product, then you can maintain the newly added row in the Test Types grid and set the values you require.
sequence, period type, mandatory, notes and lower/upper tolerance (if applicable) can be overridden.

Assign to Process

  • Open the structure module.
  • In the Items grid, click the checkbox on the process component you would like to add your test to.
  • The test types widget will appear and you can add your test in the same way as assigning to a product (see above). These can also be overridden at the component level by maintaining the added row.

Recording Test Results

Goods Receipts

When you receive a product that has tests assigned to it, you can record test results against it.

  • Open the goods receipt module and create or navigate to a goods receipt with the product to be tested.
  • Click the checkbox on the product in question in the items grid.
  • In the Test Types grid below click the add action.
  • Select the test type to use (from any test types that are assigned to this product) and enter the details.
  • Repeat the process of adding test results as many times as needed.

There are no restrictions to the number of times a result for a particular test type can be recorded and test results can be modified and deleted.

Manufacturing Orders

Test results can be recorded against process and manufactured item wip lines.

  • Open the manufacturing order module and create or navigate to an MO with the product/process to be tested.
  • Click the checkbox on the product/process in question in the items grid.
  • In the Test Types grid below click the add action.
  • Select the test type to use (from any test types that are assigned to this product) and enter the details.
  • Repeat the process of adding test results as many times as needed.

Assigning Test Results

When finishing an MO you can assign any test results that are not tied to a finished item to the batch being completed which will ensure the test results are related to the created batch.

  • Run the finish action on an MO
  • Click on the Test Results tab and check any results you would like to relate to the created batch
  • Click on Save

Product Hub

Test results can be recorded directly against an inventory batch for any test types that have been assigned to that product.
You can also view any test results here for inventory batches here that were added via Manufacturing Orders or Goods Receipts.

  • Open the Product Hub module and navigate to the product you want to record test results against.
  • On the stock tab click the checkbox of the inventory batch you want to record against.
  • On the Test Results widget below, click on the Add action to record your results.
